Boston 6, Brooklyn 5
Preacher Roe's first appearance as a Dodger started out horribly as he allowed four runs on two walks, three hits, and two wild pitches in just the first inning. After that, he was nearly perfect for the next six innings, and Brooklyn helped him out with a four-run innings of their own in the sixth followed by one more in the seventh to take the lead. But Boston was not yet done after an Al Dark RBI double to tie the game and an error allowing him to score later in the inning put the Braves back ahead by one. Bobby Hogue got the win for pitching the eighth before Boston took the lead and then finished off the ninth to hold off the comeback attempt from the Dodgers. Although they lost, Pee Wee Reese broke out of his early season slump with three hits, including an RBI triple.
