St. Louis Cardinals (4-2) at Pittsburgh Pirates (4-4)

(4-2, 2-1 road)@(4-4, 0-3 home)

St. Louis Cardinals (4-2) at Pittsburgh Pirates (4-4)
First Meeting in 1948
April 27

Tuesday, April 27

St. Louis 5, Pittsburgh 2
In his season debut, Joe Garagiola hit a two-run homer in the fifth to put St. Louis in the lead and then added a third RBI with a sacrifice fly the following inning. That alone was enough to beat Pittsburgh, who could only score two runs, both driven in by Ralph Kiner. The Cardinals did lose Whitey Kurowski to an injury and will expect to be without him for some time.
