Mel Parnell fanned seven and held Washington to just five hits for a complete game victory in his first start of the year. The offense for Boston took advantage of its four extra-base hits, three of which were triples, by scoring a run each time. Washington's lone one, a triple by Eddie Yost, also led to their only run of the game.

Boston scored another three runs in the eighth after four consecutive hits to start the inning and then scored one more in the ninth. Earl Johnson tossed a shutout, his fourth since last July, by holding the Senators to just four hits.
