The rout was on, with Johnny Mize leading the way at four hits. The Giants overcame four errors, leading to two unearned runs for Ray Poat. New
York's five runs in the fifth were the key to breaking the game open. With runners on second and third and no outs, Johnny Mize was intentionally walked. Understandable, but the Braves paid dearly after Sid Gordon doubled to drive two in, with the three of the next four batters singling to drive in a run. Jack Conway finished off the scoring on a groundout, one inning after hitting a two-RBI single.BOXSCORE: 1948 New York Giants At 1948 Boston Braves 4/25/1948 Giants AB R H RBI AVG Braves AB R H RBI AVG J.Conway 2B 5 0 1 3 .258 E.Stanky 2B 5 0 1 0 .208 B.Kerr SS 5 1 2 0 .400 T.Holmes RF 5 0 2 0 .276 B.Thomson CF 5 1 2 0 .160 E.Torgeson 1B 4 1 1 0 .345 J.Mize 1B 4 1 0 0 .231 B.Elliott 3B 3 1 0 0 .308 S.Gordon LF 5 2 2 2 .385 J.Heath LF 4 1 1 1 .333 W.Marshall RF 4 2 2 2 .269 C.Conatser CF 4 1 2 3 .250 W.Westrum C 5 0 2 0 .400 P.Masi C 4 0 0 0 .300 J.Lohrke 3B 4 2 2 1 .227 S.Sisti SS 2 0 0 0 .154 C.Hartung P 5 0 2 1 .400 J.Prendergast P 1 0 0 0 .000 R.Martin P 0 0 0 0 ---- A-A.Lyons PH 1 0 0 0 .000 E.Wright P 0 0 0 0 ---- B-A.Dark PH 1 0 0 0 .500 B.Hogue P 0 0 0 0 ---- C-D.Litwhiler PH 1 0 0 0 .250 -- -- -- --- -- -- -- --- Totals 42 9 15 9 Totals 35 4 7 4 A-Pinch Hit For Martin In 5th Inning B-Pinch Hit For Wright In 6th Inning C-Pinch Hit For Hogue In 9th Inning Giants.......... 0 1 0 2 6 0 0 0 0 - 9 15 1 Braves.......... 0 0 0 4 0 0 0 0 0 - 4 7 2 Giants (4-3) IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA SCORESHEET C.Hartung WIN(1-0) 9 7 4 4 3 3 1 4.00 A1 Totals 9 7 4 4 3 3 1 Braves (4-3) IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA SCORESHEET J.Prendergas LOSS(0-1) 4 8 7 5 2 2 0 10.38 A1 C5 R.Martin 1 4 2 2 0 0 0 18.00 C6 D3 E.Wright 1 1 0 0 1 0 0 0.00 D4 D8 B.Hogue 3 2 0 0 0 3 0 2.25 D9 Totals 9 15 9 7 3 5 0 ATTENDANCE- 38,137 DATE- Sunday, April 25th 1948 TIME- Day WEATHER- Good UMPIRES- Jocko Conlan, , Beans Reardon, Larry Goetz T- 2:29 LEFT ON BASE- Giants: 9 Braves: 7 DOUBLE PLAYS- Giants: 0 Braves: 1 ERRORS- B.Kerr, B.Elliott, S.Sisti DOUBLES- B.Thomson(1st), S.Gordon(1st), T.Holmes(3rd), J.Heath(1st) TRIPLES- S.Gordon(1st), W.Westrum(1st) HOME RUNS- C.Conatser(1st) RBIs- J.Conway-3(5th), S.Gordon-2(2nd), W.Marshall-2(2nd), J.Lohrke(2nd), C.Hartung, J.Heath(1st), C.Conatser-3(5th) STOLEN BASES- E.Torgeson(1st) CAUGHT STEALING- J.Conway WALKS- J.Mize, W.Marshall, J.Lohrke, B.Elliott, S.Sisti-2 STRIKE OUTS- J.Conway, J.Mize, W.Westrum, C.Hartung-2, S.Sisti-2, D.Litwhiler GIDP- B.Kerr 2-out RBI- J.Conway-2 RLISP 2-out- J.Conway, B.Kerr, B.Thomson, E.Torgeson, J.Lohrke, A.Dark-2, B.Elliott, T.Holmes TEAM RISP- Giants: 6 for 14 Braves: 2 for 7
