Lou Boudreau missed out on his second grand slam of the season, but a bases-clearing double to break the tie in the ninth was more than enough with Bob Lemon shutting the White Sox down on the mound. Lemon, who also benefitted from Boudreau's grand slam last week to avoid the loss, earned the win by allowing just five hits in his complete game. He also was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and scored twice in the contest.

Chicago 3, Cleveland 2
There were only two occasions where a Chicago batter game to the plate with a runner in scoring position, yet both times the batter drove in the run. For comparison, Cleveland failed get a hit in any of their chances, only scoring with Larry Doby's first career home run with the bases empty and a wild pitch allowing Jim Hegan to score from third in the seventh.
