Game one of the doubleheader ended quick with a pair of seven-hit, complete games with only frame of scoring for both teams. Al Zarilla hit a two-run homer in the first, though he was injured later in the game and will miss at least a week. Joe Haynes is off two an 0-2 start after going 14-6 last year.

Nelson Potter allowed just four hits in eight innings of work, never giving Chicago a chance. Meanwhile, the Browns took the lead from their first at bat with a rare leadoff homer by Bob Dillinger. Ken Wood, making his first career start in the place of Al Zarilla, hit a triple in the sixth and would later score.
